What happens when many intelligent entities interact with each other?

Human societies and other many complex systems can be modeled using a Multi-Agent paradigm, where an (intelligent) agent is usually defined as an autonomous entity that performs actions towards the achievement of its goals.

For example, understanding how an agent community can manage to collectively solve a problem, or compete with each other in an open-market-like situation, are just two very general situations handled by Multi-Agent System’s theory and techniques.
